Eyelid Surgery

in Grand Rapids, MI

When most people think of aging signs, they think of wrinkles, fine lines, or jowls. One of the ways that aging affects our looks is the eyes. Aging skin can cause bags, dark circles, wrinkles, and drooping eyelids. Sometimes the drooping eyelid can even impair your vision. To help improve your eyes so that you can have youthful, functional eyes you should consider eyelid surgery. At Aesthetic Plastic Surgery of Grand Rapids, Dr. Iacobucci is specially trained in facial surgery and can rejuvenate your eyes to help you look years younger.

What is Eyelid Surgery?

To correct any sagging, bulging, or drooping eyelids, there is eyelid surgery. This surgery is also referred to as blepharoplasty, and it can be done on either the upper or lower eyelids. Often, it is done in conjunction with a forehead lift or a facelift. By speaking with Dr. Iacobucci about your goals and concerns for this surgery, he can help to choose the best option(s) for you.

How is Eyelid Surgery Done?

This procedure is done on an outpatient basis. It utilizes local anesthesia with sedation. Depending on the amount of change desired this surgery can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Dr. Iacobucci will mark the natural creases and lines of the eyelids so that they can hide any scars. Incisions will be made around the lash line and through this excess fat, muscles, and skin will be trimmed and removed. Then the incisions will be closed. This procedure typically lasts between one-to-three hours.

Recovery from Eyelid Surgery

A dressing may be applied to the eyes post-op. Swelling and bruising is normal but will subside with time. You can use cold compresses to help with the swelling. It is important to keep your head elevated during recovery. Patients tend to return to most daily activities within a week. Strenuous activities need to be restricted for several weeks. At a follow-up appointment with Dr. Iacobucci, he will let you know when you are able to go back to all daily activities.

Who is a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?

If drooping eyelids have started to obstruct your vision or sagging skin tissue is causing you to look older then you could be a viable candidate for eyelid surgery. By making a consultation appointment with Dr. Iacobucci he will examine your eyes and go over your medical history to make sure you can undergo this surgery successfully.
