Calf Implants

in Grand Rapids, MI

Having large, defined calves are seen as a very masculine trait in today’s society. Many men feel insecure or self-conscious if they have small calves. To help men feel more confident, we offer calf implants. Dr. Iacobucci can help correct this muscle imbalance at his office at Aesthetic Plastic Surgery of Grand Rapids.

What are Calf Implants?

Calf augmentation helps to tone and define while balancing out your proportions. Calf implants can be made from either silicone gel or solid silicone. The silicone-gel implants can be available in symmetrical sizes which are best suited for more people. Bodybuilders tend to get anatomical silicone implants as they add more dramatic volume. Dr. Iacobucci can custom carve solid silicone implants to fit them to your desired results. Most patients need one or two implants in each leg.

How are Calf Implants Done?

You can get calf implants on either one or both calves. During the procedure, an incision is made in the crease behind the knee. Then the skin is gently pulled away so Dr. Iacobucci can see the muscle. He will then gently insert the implants, so they mimic the natural leg contour. Dr. Iacobucci will help to choose the right implant shape and size so that you get the most natural-looking results. This procedure takes about two hours to perform and can be done with general anesthesia or local anesthesia.

Recovery from Calf Implants

After your surgery, you will be fitted with compression stockings that need to be worn for two to three weeks. These help with blood circulation and minimizes swelling. Your activity level needs to be restricted during this time. Most patients should remain off their feet as much as possible during the first two weeks post-op. You can typically return to normal activity after four weeks.

Who is a Good Candidate for Calf Implants?

If you are self-conscious about the look of your calves, then getting calf implants could be a great option for you! People who need calf implants generally have small, asymmetrical calves that don’t look proportionate to their legs. To undergo this surgery, you should be in good general health and not have any sicknesses that could cause complications.
