More about Breast Augmentation
You may want breast augmentation surgery if you:
- Have breasts that are not the same size
- Have lost a substantial amount of weight
- Have sagging, poorly-shaped breasts
- Have breasts that are small in relation to your body
The breast augmentation procedure uses implants to restore the size and shape of your breasts. You will be placed under sedation and either local or general anesthesia. The procedure can be performed on an outpatient or an inpatient basis and takes between 1 and 3 hours to complete.
Your surgeon will create incisions either through your armpits, in the crease under your breasts, or between the areola and the breast tissue. The implant is then inserted into the pocket and centered on the breast. Finally, the implant is filled with saline and the incision is closed.
Following the procedure, you may be given antibiotics to prevent infection, as well as pain medication. While you can expect some slight swelling at the surgery site, wearing a surgical bra will help alleviate this issue. However, you will still need to avoid strenuous activity for up to 4 weeks.
